Coventry University wins funding to help develop 'self-healing batteries'
Technology
Coventry University is part of a €5.7million (£4.88m) project to help develop a new class of battery. The university's Centre for E-Mobility Research (CEMR) is one of 10 organisations from across Europe to share the funding.
The organisations have formed the Horizon Europe Programme, which successfully secured the funding. The group is now focused on developing a new class of battery that will replace the currently used lithium-ion (Li-ion Gen 3) cells.
The Healing Bat project will focus on developing self-healing concepts in materials in components used in lithium-sulfur (Li-S) batteries. It will then use the designs to develop new technologies.
